Roe Jan Brewing Co.’s story is one full of rich history. Their name, Roeliff Jansen Kill, or “Roe Jan” as it’s known to the locals, is after the small river that runs through Hillsdale, NY, and is a point of local pride for the brewery. The historic building where they’re located was originally built in 1851 and was largely unoccupied for 20 years until they purchased it in June 2018.
Before it became Roe Jan, the building was home to numerous businesses like general stores, a shirt factory, and a beer bottling operation, among others. Their restoration required lifting it six feet in the air to repair its foundation but preserve its original bones. Now, those historic touches shine through, from exposed beams to the grain hopper turned beer bar centerpiece. Roe Jan’s vibe is all about honoring the past while creating something entirely fresh and local.

They have a lineup of live regional music every weekend, and are family and dog-friendly, offering a “pub burger” patty or dog “beer” (broth) for the pups, so there truly is something for everyone to enjoy.
