The way people are purchasing craft beer is quickly changing. While overall craft beer production dipped by 4% in 2024 (a record drop outside of pandemic years, according to Axios), demand for direct-to-doorstep delivery is only growing. Today’s craft beer drinkers want options, convenience, and a way to support local breweries, without needing to leave the house. Direct-to-consumer (DtC) beer shipping offers that and is becoming a major opportunity for craft breweries.
Delivery Is Gaining Traction
A 2024 survey from Sovos ShipCompliant and the Brewers Association shows just how strong the appetite is:
- 86% of regular craft beer drinkers say they support expanding DtC beer shipping laws.
- 83% said they’d buy more frequently from breweries offering craft beer delivery options.
- 69% said they would spend $50+ monthly to order beer online if they could order directly from breweries.
- 68% would be likely to subscribe to a monthly subscription from a brewery if they offered DtC shipping.
What This Means for Breweries
For independent breweries, the message is clear: delivery could be a game-changer. It’s an opportunity not just to grow sales, but to expand reach, build deeper relationships with loyal customers, and stay competitive in a crowded market.
- 86% of craft beer drinkers said they would be likely to think more positively about a brewery that offered DtC shipping.
- 86% said they would be likely to recommend that brewery to friends and family.
